The Great Room Purge of 2009 continues

Spent most of the day cleaning my room again in preparation for a little redecorating and feng shui. Inhaled a lot of dust and threw out a lot of things including:
  • 3 backpacks and 2 purses
  • My module project from freshman year
  • Lunar Lime Lipsmackers from when I was twelve
  • Binders, notebooks and duotangs from my entire elementary school career
  • Book reports from seventh grade
  • My homework agenda from second grade
  • Easybake Oven (Sigh. I totally would have kept this if I hadn't lost the little plastic arm that lets you put the cake into the oven without burning and partially amputating your fingers on the metal door)

Oh mommy! Oh daddy! I am a big ol' baddy!

Because this episode of Friends was on the other night, I present:
Makes me laugh every time.
And as a bonus:
Oh, Jemaine.

UPDATE: I've probably watched that Joey clip about 5 times already since I posted it this morning. Seriously, it never gets old.
UPDATE: Make that more like 15 times.

Some work-related observations, musings, and experiences from the week

picture from here

  • I love people whose voices don't match their appearance. There was a customer this past week who looked sort of like Josh from that Nickelodeon show Drake & Josh (holy man that kid has lost weight. He looks good. He's the one sitting down. And there were much more attractive pictures of him. I just wanted to show him how I remember him on the show). So yeah, he looked like that but sounded like Ray Romano.
  • A lot of customers don't even bother with the "Do you have.....?" part of the question. They'll simply state the flower and make their voices go up at the end and hope you point them in the right direction. "Salvia argentea?" "Bacopa?" It doesn't bug me. Just something I noticed.
  • It's amazing how many questions I can answer just by reading the tags. Seriously, people. Open your eyes a little. Stretch those optical muscles.
  • A lot of old people come to the store. And I mean A LOT of old people. Bus loads. They make a day trip out of it and all come together. I love it.

Oh. My. God.

I am SO making this.

Angels & Demons

I went to go see Angels & Demons today. Really enjoyed it (but I haven't read the book for a while so I just had the basic plot in my mind. I'd give it a 7.5/10. My friend who had read it more recently didn't enjoy it very much). But I always did like Angels & Demons infinitely more than The Da Vinci Code. I've never understood why that one got so much more hype. But just seeing Rome in the film made me want to go back! So I made a few poladroids out of some of my old photos.

I want to ride my bicycle

I want to ride my bike.

I want to ride my bicycle,
I want to ride it where I like.

Doesn't she look cool?

So, this was the first week that I got my bike out of the garage and went for a nice long bike ride. I look forward to many more. Thought I'd commemorate the occasion with some pretty pictures.

Pics from here and here and here and here and here.

One success and two failures

There is something so lovely about chocolate covered strawberries.
They are so simple yet somehow seem very decadent.

We were going to make a white chocolate drizzle for them but our first attempt to melt the white chocolate chips failed miserably when they shriveled up and burned in the microwave. Then we went the makeshift double-boiler route and all was going well, the chips were melting nicely and it was smooth but not runny enough and we would have had to Jackson Pollock them at the strawberries so we thought maybe adding a teensy bit of milk would make them a bit easier to drizzle. Bad idea. As soon as the milk hit the chocolate it immediately congealed. Fail x2. So we just decided to junk it and eat them as is.

Eep

So, I have definitely found nirvana.....just wish I knew where it was.

And the award for biggest packrat goes to.....

Just a few of the things I found while cleaning my room this morning.

Art history notes from freshman year

A mini project for freshman art history. We were supposed to make a handkerchief inspired by Rococo art (which I absolutely despise) so I tried to make mine look like a bunch of flowers were ralphing all over it.

Valentine from Abi!

This bus route no longer exists. I wonder if there are any weird
collectors that would give me money for this schedule. Mint condition!

So, this schedule is from when Chelsey and I took the bus and some old lady behind us kept talking to us. So we decided to write down everything she said because it was damn entertaining.

  • Jacket - $600
  • McDonald's
  • ex-husband
  • cowboy hat ($15)
  • French toast
  • Black woman's bag - Walmart - ask where bought
  • her mom went to Walmart
  • Eat lunch
  • (hard to get there)
  • don't remember
  • nice and dry - stopped
  • chewing with mouth open
  • nice guy looking at the bus - waved to him and he waved back to me - where is he going now?
  • Landmark Credit Union
  • Stadium
  • people are all going to work with people
  • back and forth

Score

So, the store where my sister works is closing and they had a bunch of wicker stuff out front for half price the other day when we went to pick her up from work. I've been admiring these birdcages for months and scooped one of them up right away. When I was in the store one of the workers made a comment about my prize and I was talking about how they were half off. A few minutes later he walked up to me and said that I could just take it for 99¢. So, of course I went out to go scoop up the other two birdcages that had been on the shelf, too. Except, when I got out there this other lady was eyeing up one of the other birdcages so I just snagged the one free one and hovered until she (sigh) decided to purchase the other one. Although, she was definitely eyeing my two birdcages as I walked around for another half hour. She kept making small talk and saying things like, "You still carrying those around?" and "That one's a little broken" in a trying-to-be-casual voice—but I saw right through her!

Not sure what I'm going to do with them but I'm doing a little cleaning and feng shui in my room so I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Rain and hot thigh - goes well with cheese!

Without you two gals
My days are just not the same
Miss you millions

"Okay,goingtogowatchHighSchoolMusicalnow,bye."

Yeah, I went there.

So I saw this recipe for 5-minute mug cake on How to Eat a Cupcake and even though Cassie said it was bad and it looked strange, I had to try it. And now I have. And I don't ever have to make it again. It was odd and spongy and probably would have been better if eaten with a fork but wasn't as disgusting as I was anticipating.

I made a video of mine in the microwave (plus a little commentary from Mireille and myself) but iPhoto is being dumb and will upload EVERYTHING on my camera except this video. So we'll see if I can get it up soon.

UPDATE: Video now on computer but blogger being dumb and will not upload. Will now attempt Youtube.

UPDATE: SUCCESSSSSS

Work, work, work

Some shots from work.

Pretty dahlias. I keep saying "dah-lia" like the murder instead of
"day-lia" like they are actually pronounced, apparently.

I designed this display all by meself!

V-town

Sweet and savoury crepes from Cafe Crepe. That's Anna.

Vancouver Public Library. Have walked by this place many times but never gone in. Went in for the first time yesterday. IT IS MECCA. 6 floors of literary goodness.

Deep-fried spin me round good good

Went to the fair the other day with my friend Christy. I love fauxlaroids of fair stuff almost as much as I love the fair. I love everything about fairs: the multitudes of junk food, rides that spin you around until you ralph, and Whack-a-mole. (An observation: whack-a-mole- and guacamole share a surprising amount of letters. Some weird illustration inspiration methinks).

Deep fried Oreos.
Is there anything better?
No, no there is not.

Nature calls

I was walking around outside at work doing plant stuff as I usually do when this one middle-aged - oldish man made this comment:

"I just completed an important errand. When you get to my age and nature calls, you answer it right away."
