THE INEFFABLE IRIS APFEL

I was going to roll this in with the Friday links but decided that Iris deserves a post all to herself. She is so magnificent.

Local goodness

Week two at school and I already have deadlines up the wazoo and my head is about ready to implode so I'm dipping into my drafts that never got posted. Today, we're going to take a little trip back to the year 2009. You get to travel back in time, people. No DeLorean required.

Here are a couple of the awesome finds seen the other day when I was at the Lonsdale Quay.

How cool are these belt buckles made from recycled skate decks? Made by Billy Would Designs, who use recycled wood to make all of their accessories and hail from North Vancouver.

I love these Figo Wishing Dolls. Claudia Segovia originally started making them to raise money for her son's speech therapy. They are made from recycled materials and have a pocket where you can write a wish and tuck it inside!

You know what today needs? A nice bowl of soup......maybe with a breadbowl.

Yellow Jacket Vintage

Abi and I had the opportunity to interview the super cool owner of Yellow Jacket yesterday for a school project. This awesome shop is chock full of unique clothing finds and interesting accessories for men and women. I learned that she and her husband actually bought the building the shop is in, gutted it and totally renovated it. Also learned that Yellow Jacket has an Etsy shop stocked with tons of awesome items.

I scored this cool bag that I plan to use as an airplane carry-on bag (so now I won't lose my wallet!). Eleven dolla.

If you are in the Milwaukee area and want to do some shopping I recommend checking out Yellow Jacket on Brady Street.

Feast your eyes

Feast your eyes on the incredible food photography of Luxirare. The food on this webzine (which also features amazing fashion photography) is part mouth-watering, part intriguing science experiment. The process and final results are all chronicled with stunning photos.

Happy feet

The Look See featured these gorgeous fair-trade shoes from Osborn Design Studio the other day. I'd like one of each please.

Oh, if only.

I worship the style of Le Blog de Betty and yesterday she proved why. Any girl who can make sweats this fashionable deserves a giant trophy....or something more useful and pretty. Although, I don't think any pair of heels and patent leather coat could save my sweats and make them even remotely fashionable. Oh, if only.
