Swinging Belleville rendez-vous + The Illusionist

I watched The Triplets of Belleville over the weekend and I can't believe I haven't watched it before! The character designs are so quirky and the scenery is gorgeous. I love how sparse the dialogue is in the film and yet it is totally engaging from beginning to end.

After I told my friend Anna who is studying animation at Sheridan College (it was more like "Why didn't you tie my to a chair and force me to watch this before?") she told me that Sylvain Chomet, the brain behind Triplets, is releasing a new movie this year, The Illusionist (which is tricky to google because I keep getting results for the 2006 film with Ed Norton).

As far as I know, the trailer is only available in Russian for now. So for those of you who speak Russian, enjoy, and for those who don't (like me) you can oggle the beautiful animation.

  1. I'll admit I don't watch a lot of animated movies. But that one looks so cool. It really reminds me of Anna's style actually.

  2. This animated film looks better than those Disney/Hollywood-produced stuffs....
