Irish Fest

For participating in the Irish Fest poster competition, we got free passes to the festival this year.

(see the little turnstile between the signs?)

Liz and I decided to check it out yesterday (or more like, I begged, and Liz—who hates crowds and people—complied since her mom wanted to go, too). Truth be told, all I really wanted to do was ride the skyride at the Summerfest grounds. It's one of those things I imagine to be quintessentially Milwaukee and wanted to experience before I leave.

It was everything I hoped it would be.

After that, I really didn't care what else was at the festival. I was happy I got my skyride. But there were some other fun things, as well. Other Irish Fest-y things include genealogy booths, celtic drum lessons, hurling demonstrations, artisan booths and of course, no shortage of beer (there was, however, a shortage or corned beef, which I thought was funny).

Another festival highlight was the live music—like seeing these guys. I love it when you discover new artists at festivals. The Guggenheim Grotto are a wonderful folk duo from Ireland (of course) who remind me of bands like Jon and Roy or even the Paperboys for a few of their songs. I love the harmonization of their voices. Here were my two favourite songs they performed (both from their latest album The Universe is Laughing).
